Who am I that YOU are mindful of me?

Have you ever wondered why God cares about you so much? I do wonder as well sometimes. I mean why would He take the pains and effort to show and prove His love to us?

The God who made the sky, the seas, the majestic mountain, the lovely flowers and grasses, the birds, … the Creator of everything, why would He show so much care and attention on us? He doesn’t even need us. He is already God, we don’t add or subtract from Him. Why would He, who needs nothing, be so mindful of us?

In the world we live in, it is expected for a powerful ruler to treat those beneath him with disdain. It is unlikely for any member of the royal family to serve their servants or treat them like their own children. The same is true in every society, those at the bottom are expected to 'know' their place and stay in line. While those at the top are expected to get away with anything.

Yet we have a God, who is all powerful and all sufficient, who treats us with so much importance! And He doesn’t do this because we are great or extraordinary. Most of us are regular, everyday folks, who are not celebrities, or persons of international acclaim. We are almost faceless and nameless among the billions of people who live on this earth, yet this Almighty God has lavished such love and concern for us! Isn't that just amazing?

I’m not the only one who has pondered this, King David also felt the same way in Psalm 8:3-4, when he wrote:
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?”

The God who is powerful, yet so gentle and loving. The God who knows all our weaknesses yet loves us regardless. The God who is concerned about every facet of our lives. He is never bored of the little details, neither does He rush us.

He is patient, understanding, kind and helpful.
He is like a mother who enjoys and celebrates every tiny progress her child makes, even when others do not. And who lovingly corrects the child when he errs.

God is truly amazing! Enjoy this song by Don Moen which captures quite nicely what I’m trying to say:

You who made the mountains and the sea
Measured out the universe and You made me
Echoes of the voice that called the worlds to be
Reach throughout the ages and now speak to me
You're my Creator King

You who made the valleys and the skies
Displayed Your love on far horizons and before my eyes
You who lit the stars and set the dawn in time
Called them all by name and now You whisper mine
You're my Creator King

Who am I that You are mindful of me? Yeah
Who am I that You sent Your love on me?
You're my Creator King

You who made the darkness and the light
Sun and moon to watch the day and guard the night
The hand that stretched the Heavens like a canopy
Reaches down to cover and watch over me
You're my Creator King

Who am I? Who am I that You are mindful of me?
Who am I that You sent Your love on me?
Who am I that You are mindful of me?
Who am I that You sent Your love on me? Yeah
You're my Creator King, You're my Creator King
You're my Creator King, You're my Creator King
